Together with father Peter VanNieuwenhuyzen, sons Willem and Rit  recognized the need to develop a more sustainable form of agriculture.

For us, organic farming means minimizing the environmental damage caused by traditional methods of farming while increasing the quality of the soil and managing pests by natural sources.

How We Grow Them Different

Growing healthy potatoes without the use of unnatural substances has been a fantastic challenge. We have taken great care to clean the soil by ensuring no unnatural products have been near our organic fields for at least three years before we grow your organic potatoes in them. We then use only natural sources of nutrition for the plants at they grow. For weed control we use fire to burn the weeds or simply rip the weeds out.

We have been able to experiment to find varieties that are more tolerable to fungus and have used a super sized vacume cleaner to suck the bugs off of the plants. Our potatoes are then placed in a modern storage that controls the humidity and reduces the temperature to keep them from breaking dormancy and sprouting.

Growing organic potatoes definitely has it challenges, but the reward is beautiful healthy potato with a guaranteed history of being produced in an environmentally safe way.
